Planning consent was successfully secured for a single 500kW wind turbine with a tip height of 67 metres at Carr Farm, Rimswell. The client had been considering a wind turbine at the site for many years, at what is an open site just a few kilometres from the coast, well suited for a wind turbine.

JHWalter Energy supported the project delivery phase advising on contracts, service and maintenance, project delivery, funding and Ofgem accreditation.

Much of the energy produced by the wind turbine is utilised on site by the egg production business K Fresh, considerably reducing its CO2 emissions. In addition K fresh grow their own grain, process it, feed the birds and process, pack and distribute the eggs, resulting in a smaller carbon footprint, reduced food miles and the reuse of wastes as fertilisers.

The location of the wind turbine was chosen after extensive feasibility work, including the following considerations:

  • Suitable distance from the nearby dwellings to ensure noise and shadow flicker would not adversely affect nearby dwellings and residents
  • Suitable standoff distance from nearby trees and hedgerows to ensure no adverse impact on ecology
  • Most suitable location of the nearest access road for the delivery of the turbine’s components
  • Located where the turbine would have no impact upon on military and civil aviation operations and radar
  • Close proximity to a good grid connection point
  • Located in a position which would not have an adverse impact on radio and telecommunication links and TV reception
