The JHWalter Energy & Planning Team submitted an application to Rhondda Cynon Taf Borough Council for a pair of 250kW wind turbines on land located at Bryntail Farm, Rhydyfelin, Pontypridd for the wind developer, RevolutionNRG Ltd in October 2013.

RevolutionNRG Ltd has actively been exploring sites for the installation of wind turbines for the last couple of years, following the introduction of the Feed in Tariff. The aim of RevolutionNRG Ltd was to produce electricity to offset Bryntail Farm’s energy usage and to export electricity to the local electricity network for consumption within the wider community, providing a small but meaningful contribution to aiding the Government in meeting its renewable energy targets.

JHWalter submitted the application for the pair of 71m tip turbines in October 2013. The application is currently being considered by Rhondda Cynon Taf Borough Council and a decision will be made shortly.

The location of the wind turbine was chosen after extensive feasibility work, including the following considerations:

  • Suitable distance from the nearby dwellings to ensure noise and shadow flicker would not adversely affect nearby dwellings and residents
  • Suitable standoff distance from trees, hedgerows and wooded areas to ensure no adverse impact on ecology
  • Most suitable location of the nearest access road for the delivery of the turbine’s components
  • Located where the turbine would have no impact upon on military and civil aviation operations and radar
  • Close proximity to a good grid connection point
  • Located in a position which would not have an adverse impact on radio and telecommunication links and TV reception
