Buy Yourself An Oil Well In £6m Sale

News Image A sale billed as the most valuable auction ever in Lincolnshire includes two oil wells and a reading room. The value of the lots is expected to break through the £6 million barrier if all properties go for the guide price. But the most unusual, the two oil wells and surrounding land at Weston, near Newark, will not attract would-be barons as the sale does not include rights to the black gold.

‘Quirky’ Clause Over Coach House Sale

News Image The coach house in Lincoln's cathedral quarter is to be auctioned off. With a guide price of £200,000, the building is also subject to an ancient clause that any new house built on the site would have to be worth more than £800. Victorian businessman Robert Swan and Thomas Bourne inserted the clause into its contract when they sold the property to John Battle in 1878. Now a planning application to build a four bedroom house on the grounds of the coach house has been received.

Property Ladder - Lincolnshire Revisited

News Image Sarah Beeny revisits Philip Martinson and Stephen Hodgkinson from the very first series, way back in 2001. Then, they'd just given up secure jobs for a new career in property - but it was much harder than they'd ever imagined. Now it turns out these two have serious talent, but it's not just in developing. Seven years ago, in the first series of Property Ladder, barrister Stephen Hodgkinson and make up artist Philip Martinson swapped the high life in London for a wreck of a barn in rural Lincolnshire. They'd forked out £55,000 on a shell - a former dairy, 30 minutes drive from the city of Lincoln. Despite a severe lack of relevant experience, they planned to turn it into a luxury family home.
